The Postal Peddler is one of several Web site businesses owned by Joelle Steele and Joelle Steele Enterprises, founded in 1983. Joelle Steele is a writer, artist, and publisher who has been selling her products and services online since 1994.

When she was eight years old, Joelle began collecting stamps and postcards because she liked art and they looked like miniature art. Her mother had earlier taken an interest in stamp collecting and had about 600 loose stamps. Eventually, the two merged and organized their collections, and for many years they obtained stamps from varied sources, including the payment envelopes received by the family business, and postcards from their own travels and those of their many friends and family members. Over the years, they were also given small stamp and postcard collections from friends, acquaintances, and even a few of Joelle's employers, co-workers, and clients, in addition to occasional purchases of postcard collections at garage sales and stamps through the mail.

After her mother passed away, Joelle became the sole custodian of their mutual collection, and with no collectors in the family to take up the pursuit, she is selling most of the collection for others to enjoy.
